Building the Site
The manner in which a web site is built can have a strong
impact on how a search engine spider is able to read and index
its content. Think of spiders as a text only browser that
is interested in the text of your page. Fancy images, complicated
java script and Flash movies can make it difficult for a spider
to find what it is looking for.
This is not to say that you should abandon the idea of aesthetically
pleasing web site design, or user friendly technology like
a java script drop-down navigation, you'll just need to keep
in mind that simplicity and "spiderability" often
go hand in hand.
